17-4 Stainless Forging

17-4 stainless steel (also known as type 630) is a martensitic stainless steel with high strength and hardness achieved through low-temperature treatment. As a precipitation/age hardening steel, 17-4 stainless can be tempered for increased ductility and toughness, which coupled with its superior oxidation resistance make it an excellent option for use in chemical processing equipment. Other uses for 17-4 material include pump shafts, gears, gate valves, fasteners, and food processing machinery. 17-4 steel is made up primarily of steel, with chromium, nickel and copper being the other major chemical properties. Standard specifications for stainless 17-4 include AMS 5604, AMS 5643, ASTM A 564 and more.

At Rickard Specialty Metals, we have 25+ years of experience supplying 17-4 stainless plate, sheet, forgings and more to your custom measurements. We supply 17-4 both in single melted form (i.e AMs 5643) and vac melted form (i.e AMS 5622). Our forging process includes open die forgings, ring forgings and more. 17-4 vac melt forgings are available in the same products forms as the single melted form. Additionally, we are experts in 17-4 heat treatment. See below for a list of common 17-4 stainless steel forged shapes, including 17-4 hex bar, round bar and flat bar, as well as additional product forms we offer.
