4130 Steel (also known as AISI 4130 & SAE 4130) is a chromium molybdenum low-alloy steel with considerably higher strength & toughness than the typical steel grade. Additionally, the reduced carbon level of this alloy, while limiting thickness strength, provides improved weldability over its 4140 steel counterpart. These attributes have made AISI 4130 a popular choice in the aeropspace industry for the construction of commercial and military aircraft parts that require a high strength, low weight make up. Examples include gears, piston pins and more. Other uses for 4130 steel include auto parts, cutting tools, and drill mining machinery.

At Rickard Specialty Metals, we have 30 years of experience supplying AISI 4130 steel forgings and many other product forms to your custom measurements and shapes. Our forging process includes open die forgings, ring rolling and more. See below for a list of the common 4130 forged shapes and product forms we offer.
