Titanium alloys are high-strength, lightweight materials that consist of titanium and a (usually) small percentage of aluminum, vanadium, palladium and/or other metals. The strength-to-weight ratio and excellent temperature and corrosion resistance of these alloys makes them ideal for aerospace, military, marine and medical applications. The most commonly used titanium alloy is Titanium 6AL-4V (aka Ti-6AL-4V for 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium). A controlled chemistry version with lower oxygen content which provides greater toughness at subzero temperatures is Titanium 6AL-4V ELI (extra low interstitial).
