Nitronic 50

Nitronic 50

Rickard Specialty Metals and Engineering created 2500-pound drop forge for a deepwater drill.

Nitronic 50 alloy is ideal for deepwater GPS-guided drilling. Nitronic alloy has a low magnetic permeability due to its austenitic composition and is naturally wear and corrosion resistant. Nitronic 50 performs well under extreme conditions and is especially suitable for a complex drill that is equipped with sensors and visual equipment.

Nitronic 50 is being used on equipment in the fracking fields of North Dakota and Alberta, and deep water drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Components using the combination of excellent corrosion resistance and high strength of Nitronic 50 include pumps, values and fittings, fasteners, cables, chains, screens, and wire cloth, marine hardware, boat and pump shafting, heat exchanger parts, springs and photographic equipment.

Nitronic 50 is a useful and durable material with a broad array of applications, but the primary interest to fabricators is its ease in machining and welding. Carbide tools are recommended for turning and drilling.

Rickard Metals and Engineering provides technical metals engineering expertise on all high performance alloys for the aerospace, chemical processing, and any engineered Rickards environment requiring high quality and high performance metal applications.
